Description
A north-east facing cave entrance (11 m wide and 4 m high) gives access to a kind of cave with several galleries where one can fully measure a length of 245 m descending all the way down to a depth of 42 m below the entrance. ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi ”Ka Longkur” is »the guardian goddess of a clan« (SINGH, N 1906: 118) and adjective ”dom” means »hot tempered; hard« but ”ka dom” (noun) is the word for »a pull (of smoke)« (SINGH, N 1906: 71). SITUATION: About one kilometre in a direct line from the lower margin (near N25°11'30”: E091°47'30”) of Nongjri proper, at about the same elevation as Krem –>Priang and Krem –>Diengngai, and on north of the footpath which leads from the Nongjri - Nongjri Bazar bridle path west towards Krem –>LymputAPPROACH: See Krem –>Dienggai.
History
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1997.03.24: Khynwin Singh Dkhar (Nongjri village headman) told the cave name »Krem Longkurdom« to Brian D. Kharpran Daly and H. D. Gebauer. 1998.02.23: Yvo Weidmann, Simon J. Brooks, Georg Bäumler and Sher Singh mapped 243 m of cave passages and thereby surveyed and explored this cave.
