A sacred rock shelter with paintings (rock art). For description and approach see –>Nagdwar Shelters. SITUATION: At an unspecified location (BANSAL, s.a., circa 1998) in the Kajri area (note 1) west –>Pachmarhi. APPROACH: See –>Nagdwar Shelters. IDENTITY: The »Chintaman shelter« (BANSAL, s.a., circa 1998) or »Chintamani cave« (VERMA & VENKATAKRISHNAN 1980) is possibly identical with the »Kajri Ghat Shelter« which Glennie (s.a. circa 1948 Mss "Preliminary record …" after GUIDE TO PACHMARHI 1936 Appendix) places »On the path between Kajri [] and the north end of Dhup Garh« (note 2). CAVE DESCRIPTION: Compare the –>Nagdwar Shelters. According to VERMA & VENKATAKRISHNAN (1980), »Chintamani« is »a cave formed by lateral corrosion.«
NOTE 1: Kajri N22°27'45": E078°20'10": 850 m asl (Everest 1830, Survey of India sheet 55-J/07 edition 1980). NOTE 2: Dhupagarh peak N22°26'58": E078°22'30" (Everest 1830, Survey of India sheet 55-J/07 edition 1980) rises to an elevation of 1350 m asl (India Road Atlas, Eicher Goodearth 2006: 71 G3).
