Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A relatively large, perennial spring (without known name) rises from dislocated boulders without enterable cave passage. ETYMOLOGY: Harper (2001 February Mss -Tyllap River Cave- undated) and Harper (2002.04.31 Mss -megahlay.doc- entry # 12) recorded as a Tyllap River Resurgence -- as if an entire Tyllap River (note 1) would resurge here (note 2). SITUATION: Above the western (orographically right) bank of the river, which flows past the village of Tyllab and is known in the adjacent plains of Bangladesh (North Sylhet subdivision) by the Bengali name Sonai.APPROACH: The site of the spring had been reached by walking for an estimated distance of about 500 m from an unidentified spot on the motorable track connecting Tyllap Bazar with Mawlong, and about 2 km along the track that leads from the village of Tyllap Bazar (obsolete: Thilap, Tyllab) in a somewhat northely direction to a never evr specified Ichimati area (Harper, undated 2001 February Mss; Harper 2002.04.31 Mss), which probablyis meant to refer vaguely to the vicinity of Ishamati (note 3). The (disputable?) GPS readings recorded for this spring, indicate a spot which lies very close to the known northern end of the two caves in the –>Tyllap Valley, and about 120 m east of the –>Tyllap Valley Resurgence 2. The close proximity, however, is not mentioned in the original explorer's reports. EXSURGENCE DESCRIPTION: Under collapse boulders (not pushed to a conclusion) without obvious continuation (after Harper 2001 February Mss; Harper 2002.04.31 Mss).A relatively large, perennial spring (without known name) rises from dislocated boulders without enterable cave passage.
